What Did Sermorelin Research Find About Growth Factor 1?
Weak glands in children responded with faster growth. Growth factor 1 rose in older men, while fat, sleep, memory, and slower-aging claims remain unsettled.
Human Sermorelin results answer only a few questions
The firm human findings are narrow. Children with weak growth glands grew faster, while older men's growth factor 1 and growth hormone had brief rises.
Claims about fat loss, muscle gain, and slower aging are much less sure. Much adult work used tesamorelin, whose effects last longer.
A major medical journal said these drugs weren't ready to treat aging. You deserve a clear line between study results and sales claims.
Sermorelin changed growth and short-term blood tests
Before treatment, children with poor growth-gland output grew about 4.1 centimeters a year. Their growth reached roughly 7-8 centimeters in the first year [2].
Growth factor 1, a liver-made hormone, did not rise too high. Healthy men in another study averaged 68 years of age.
For 14 days, researchers gave those men 0.5 milligram or 1 milligram twice a day. Across a 24-hour day, growth factor 1 and growth hormone rose [6].
Blood sugar stayed steady before breakfast. With the larger study amount, both growth-linked readings equaled the young men's results.
The growth factor 1 change doesn't show they lived longer or felt younger. Growth factor 1 also can't tell whether your health would improve.
These results don't prove that Sermorelin slows aging. A medical editorial said the evidence wasn't strong enough [5].

Sermorelin and growth factor 1 changed on different clocks
One shot raised growth hormone for about three hours [3]. Growth factor 1 is made in the liver and changed during a 14-day study of older men [6].
Children's height was checked across their first year [2]. Thus, “work” could mean a same-day blood-test rise, a later growth factor 1 change, or added height.
At the high study amount, the older men's growth factor 1 reading equaled the young men's reading. The same study linked the growth factor 1 rise to how much Sermorelin was given [6].
Tesamorelin raised growth factor 1 by 117%, but it is a different drug [7]. That 117% result doesn't foretell how you would respond to Sermorelin.
Sermorelin and tesamorelin are not the same drug
Many adult studies of fat and memory used tesamorelin, not Sermorelin. Tesamorelin lasts longer and is approved for extra belly-organ fat in people with human immunodeficiency virus.
A study followed 152 older adults for 20 weeks; 66 had mild memory trouble. Each received 1 milligram of tesamorelin a day or a placebo, a shot without tesamorelin.
Neither the people nor study staff knew which shot each person got, and the tesamorelin group did better than placebo on memory tests, though this report gives no simple amount for the gain [7]. It doesn't prove a Sermorelin benefit.
Growth factor 1, a liver-made hormone, rose 117%, and body-fat share fell 7.4%. Those changes also came from tesamorelin, not Sermorelin.
An ad that moves those numbers to Sermorelin has switched the drug name without switching the study. That isn't proof about Sermorelin.
Sermorelin has not been proved to burn fat or build muscle
Growth factor 1 and growth hormone help the body release stored fat. The clearest adult result came from tesamorelin, which cut body-fat share by 7.4% in one study [7].
That growth factor 1 study didn't prove weight loss from Sermorelin or say how much weight anyone lost. An ad that makes that leap goes past the study.
Sermorelin studies checked growth factor 1 and growth hormone in blood, not new muscle. A growth factor 1 rise doesn't prove that arms or legs gained muscle.
The studies also found no direct change in testosterone. Sermorelin works through growth hormones, not the body's sex-hormone system.
Sermorelin sleep and memory claims are not settled
Sermorelin copies a brain hormone tied to healthy men's deep sleep [1]. This link helps explain why studies often gave these drugs at night.
In the 152-person tesamorelin study, memory scores improved after 20 weeks. Growth factor 1, a liver-made hormone, also rose 117%, but the drug was tesamorelin [7].
A 2026 lab study did not test Sermorelin or people. A related hormone helped brain cells in dishes survive, and mice had fewer harmful protein clumps [13].
Those findings may guide later research. They can't show that Sermorelin helps memory or would help you.
Early heart and brain findings did not come from people
In a test before human trials, a related drug improved how damaged hearts worked [8]. In mice bred for changes like Alzheimer's disease, another related drug reduced harmful brain buildup [13].
Neither study tested Sermorelin in people. The results don't show that it treats heart or brain disease.
Sermorelin side effects were mild in short studies
During the 14-day Sermorelin study, morning blood sugar stayed steady while growth factor 1, a liver-made hormone, rose [6]. In the 152-person tesamorelin study, researchers called the side effects mild [7].
The pair, growth factor 1 plus growth hormone, can spur cell growth. Researchers still ask whether years of higher levels could also help cancer cells grow [1].
That cancer concern is a theory, not a proven Sermorelin result. A short study can't settle the effects of years of adult use [5].
What a doctor watches also depends on your medicines, blood tests, and health. Short studies can't settle long-term safety for you.
Long-term Sermorelin safety is still unknown
Short studies found mild side effects with Sermorelin and tesamorelin. One Sermorelin study saw steady morning blood sugar while growth factor 1, a liver-made hormone, rose [6][7].
That doesn't settle safety over many years. A medical editorial said there wasn't enough evidence to use these drugs against aging [5].
Researchers still ask whether long-lasting growth signals could help cancer cells grow [1]. For you, short use was studied, while long adult use remains unknown.
